Epipremnum aureum 'Marble Queen'

pothos marble queen

Also known as: Devil's Ivy, Variegated Pothos

Native to the islands of French Polynesia, Marble Queen is the most strikingly variegated member of the pothos family. Its heart-shaped leaves are splashed with creamy white and soft green in a marbled pattern so bold that no two leaves ever look quite the same. Because of its lighter coloring, it grows a bit slower than classic Golden Pothos, but the trade-off is a more elegant, eye-catching display. Tough, adaptable, and beautiful trailing from a shelf or climbing a support.

plant tips

  • water

Water when the top inch of the soil feels dry. Pothos stores moisture in its leaves and stems, making it quite forgiving of an occasional missed watering.

  • light

Needs brighter indirect light than most pothos varieties to keep its white variegation looking crisp and bold. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

  • zone

    Houseplant.

  • size

Can trail or climb to over 6–8 ft. in length indoors, easily managed with regular pruning to keep it as full or as long as you like.

care

Use a well-draining potting mix, such as a blend of peat moss, perlite, and regular potting soil, to provide the aeration and moisture retention this plant needs. Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every couple of months during the growing season, skipping winter when growth naturally slows. Trim regularly to control length and encourage fuller, bushier growth — cuttings root easily in water, making it simple to share with friends or fill out the pot even more. Propagate: Simply cut a long vine off of the plant and place the fresh cutting in a cup with a little water.
