Low to moderate; water regularly while establishing, then only occasionally once established. Drought-tolerant.

  • light

    Full sun.

  • size

3 feet tall and about as wide.

care

This Florida native is hardy in zone 7 and above.  Plant it in well-drained soil about 3 feet apart from each other.  Water the plant until it is established then water as needed.  Like most ornamental grasses, it does best when it gets a crew cut after it flowers in the fall.  Fertilize in the spring to give it an extra boost before it starts to grow.  Divide the plant every couple of years to keep the area uncluttered.  Use the divisions to fill in other locations of the garden or to give away.
