Asplenium nidus

fern bird nest

Also known as: Nest Fern, Spleenwort Fern

Native to the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia, Australia, and the Pacific Islands, Bird's Nest Fern is one of the most unique and easy-going ferns you can own. Unlike most ferns with delicate, divided leaves, this one grows broad, glossy, bright green fronds with wavy edges that fan out from a central rosette — looking just like a bird's nest from above. In the wild it grows right on tree trunks rather than in the ground, soaking up moisture and nutrients from the air around it.

care

Place in a warm, humid spot with indirect light and keep away from cold drafts and air conditioning vents. Mist leaves regularly or place near a humidifier to maintain the humidity this plant loves. Feed monthly with a balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength during spring and summer and skip in fall and winter. Remove any brown or damaged fronds at the base to keep the plant looking full and fresh year-round. Never pour water directly into the center of the plant.
