Curcuma alismatifolia

curcuma torch

Also known as: Siam Tulip, Summer Tulip, Hidden Ginger

Curcuma alismatifolia is a beautiful exotic plant originally from Thailand. It belongs to the ginger family, but it is not edible. The Siam Tulip is the perfect plant to place in your garden to add summer interest. The large green leaves and tulip-like inflorescence can get up to 4 feet tall. The inflorescence grows on top of scapes; the bracts can be pink, red, or purple with tiny flowers that add more textural interest to the plant.

plant tips

  • water

Keep soil lightly moist at all times but never soggy. Water regularly during the growing season and reduce watering in fall as the plant begins its natural dormancy period.

  • light

Thrives in bright indirect light to partial shade. Avoid harsh direct sun which can scorch the delicate blooms and foliage.

  • size

    Grows 2–3 ft. tall.

care

Plant Curcuma Siam Splash in a warm, bright spot with indirect light and keep the soil lightly moist at all times. Feed monthly with a balanced fertilizer from spring through fall to keep those stunning blooms coming strong. Remove spent flower heads to keep the plant looking fresh and tidy. In cooler climates, bring indoors before temperatures drop and allow the plant to rest in winter — it will come back fuller and more beautiful the following season.
