Alocasia baginda 'Silver Dragon'

alocasia silver dragon

Also known as: Silver Dragon Elephant Ear, Jewel Alocasia

Native to the rainforests of Borneo, Alocasia Silver Dragon is one of the most unique and eye-catching houseplants you can own. Its thick, heart-shaped leaves have a soft silvery-green surface with deep green veins that look just like dragon scales — a one-of-a-kind texture that makes every leaf feel like a small piece of art. New leaves start out smooth and light green before slowly developing that beautiful silver shimmer as they grow. Compact, stunning, and endlessly fascinating.

plant tips

  • water

Water when the top 2–3 inches of soil feel dry — once a week in summer and once every other week in winter.

  • light

Thrives in medium to bright indirect light — a west or east-facing window where the leaves are safely shielded from direct sun is ideal.

  • zone

    Houseplant.

  • size

Stays compact at about 2 ft. tall and wide, with leaves reaching up to 8 inches long.

care

Place in a warm, humid spot with bright indirect light and keep away from cold drafts. Use a well-draining, airy potting mix — orchid bark or perlite added to potting soil works great. Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength and skip in winter. Mist leaves regularly or place near a humidifier to maintain the high humidity this plant loves. During winter it may go semi-dormant and drop some leaves — this is completely normal and new growth will return in spring.
